Honor X7c 5G review

The X7c suits someone who wants a large, readable screen and reliable battery life for casual daily use without demanding much of the hardware. Anyone who games, edits video, or frequently multitasks should look at a chipset tier higher; anyone who can live with a smaller phone will find better value in a midrange device from a year or two back.

This review is based on Honor’s published specifications and public benchmark data for the Honor X7c 5G, and the rating is spec-based. GoSolo does not physically test devices; where we estimate real-world behaviour such as battery life or charge time, we say so. How we rate phones.

Overview

The Honor X7c 5G is a budget 5G phone built for scrolling and messaging on a large, bright screen, not speed. At around €150, it delivers on screen size and battery longevity but throttles under sustained load and its camera is ordinary for the price.

Design & build

At 193 grams and 8.2 mm thick, the X7c feels light and pocketable despite its 6.8-inch screen. The frame is narrow enough to grip one-handed, which matters on a phone this large. IP64 dust and splash resistance is enough for casual use but won't survive dunking, so you still need to be careful around water. Build quality is functional rather than premium: the chassis feels solid enough for daily knocks, but don't expect the rigidity or finish of a device twice the price. For a €150 phone, it does not cheap out visibly, which is the realistic goal at this tier.

Display

The 6.8-inch LCD screen is the X7c's strongest claim. A 1080 x 2412 resolution at 389 ppi is sharp enough for text and web content, and 120Hz scrolling is noticeably smoother than 60Hz rivals you might compare it to. The 20:9 aspect ratio stretches the usable space without making the phone awkwardly tall. Peak brightness of 850 nits is genuinely useful in direct sunlight; most phones at this price drop to unreadable levels in glare, but this one holds legibility. That said, LCD can't match OLED's contrast or black levels, so darker content looks a bit washed out. For a phone aimed at casual browsing and messaging, this screen does its job well.

Performance

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is entry-level silicon, and the X7c behaves accordingly. Everyday apps—messaging, browsing, social media—run smoothly enough, and the interface stays responsive during light multitasking. The 4GB RAM base variant will struggle sooner than the 8GB version when you stack apps, but neither configuration will feel slow for basic tasks. The real limitation shows under load: run a demanding game or edit video and you'll feel thermal throttling kick in after 20 to 30 minutes. This is not a phone for mobile gaming marathons or power users. If you plan to keep the same phone for three or four years, the minimal RAM and modest chip will age poorly as apps bloat. For someone replacing a phone every couple of years and mainly browsing, it is adequate.

Software

Android 14 with MagicOS 8 runs cleanly here. Honor has toned down the customization bloat it used to ship, so the interface stays relatively uncluttered compared to earlier versions. That said, you will still find pre-installed apps from Honor and regional carriers that you may not want; some are uninstalable. Updates are a question mark: Honor's global support for mid-range phones has improved but remains inconsistent by market. Do not expect four years of security patches like you might on a Samsung Galaxy A-series. Expect two to three years of reasonable support, then uncertainty.

Camera

The 50MP main camera benefits from f/1.8 aperture and PDAF, which sounds good on paper until you use it. In daylight and good light it captures punchy, detailed photos, but shadow recovery is weak and color grading leans artificial. Night shots are soft and muddy; the lack of a dedicated ultra-wide or telephoto means you're stuck zooming digitally, which compounds the loss of detail. The 5MP selfie is barely serviceable for video calls and portraits; it's purely functional. For someone who mainly photographs bright outdoor scenes and doesn't fuss over editing, the 50MP does the job. If you regularly shoot in mixed light or need versatility, a midrange phone with a dedicated ultrawide will do better for only slightly more money.

Battery & charging

The 5200 mAh battery is large enough to support the display and modest processor, yielding about 6 to 8 hours of screen-on time with mixed use. A full day is realistic if you're mostly reading and messaging; heavier use like video streaming or navigation will require an evening charge. 35W charging is standard for the €150 tier and fills the battery in roughly 45–60 minutes from empty, which is quick enough for a midday top-up but not revolutionary. There is no wireless charging, which is expected at this price. If you are tethered to a desk or office all day, battery anxiety is real; road warriors or outdoor workers will want to carry a power bank.

Value & verdict-context

The X7c is a straightforward device: large screen and decent battery stamina at a low price, in exchange for modest performance and ordinary cameras. At €150, it sits in the crowded space between basic feature phones and midrange devices. Competitors at this price and below offer similar batteries and processors, so the X7c does not stand apart on specs alone. Its advantage is the bright, 120Hz screen, which makes it feel more pleasant to use than many rivals for general browsing and communication. But you are explicitly not getting a device that excels at gaming, photography, or sustained multitasking. If your needs are light and your budget is tight, this phone earns its cost. If you plan to push it hard or keep it for years, saving another €50–100 for a prior-year midrange flagship with better sustained performance is the smarter play.

Verdict

The X7c suits someone who wants a large, readable screen and reliable battery life for casual daily use without demanding much of the hardware. Anyone who games, edits video, or frequently multitasks should look at a chipset tier higher; anyone who can live with a smaller phone will find better value in a midrange device from a year or two back.

Strengths
  • 6.8-inch LCD with 120Hz refresh and 850 nits peak brightness makes text and video genuinely easy to read in sunlight, a rarity at this price
  • 5200 mAh battery survives a full day of light-to-moderate use without strain; 35W charging refills it in under an hour
  • IP64 rating and compact 8.2 mm thickness balance durability against everyday splash and dust without adding bulk
Trade-offs
  • Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 throttles noticeably after 20–30 minutes of gaming or heavy multitasking; not built for sustained performance
  • 50MP camera produces soft, uninspiring detail in poor light; the 5MP selfie is merely functional
  • No microSD slot and only 4GB RAM on the base model leave little room to grow as apps expand
