This review is based on Vivo’s published specifications and public benchmark data for the Vivo S20 Pro, and the rating is spec-based. GoSolo does not physically test devices; where we estimate real-world behaviour such as battery life or charge time, we say so. How we rate phones.

Overview

The S20 Pro is a fast, slim mid-flagship with a bright AMOLED screen and capable camera system that undercuts flagship prices. It's built for people who want proven performance and daylight imaging without paying flagship premiums, though its charging and battery life lack the edge that would make it genuinely outstanding.

Design & Build

At 160.6mm tall and 7.5mm thick, the S20 Pro is one of the thinnest flagships around and carries that thinness without creaking. At 194g it's genuinely light—comfortable to hold for hours. IP64 keeps dust and rain splashes out but doesn't go deep; a spilled drink or light pocket moisture is fine, but don't dunk it. The dual Nano-SIM setup and no microSD slot are standard for this class now, no surprise. Build quality reads as solid Vivo—nothing fragile, nothing over-engineered.

Display

The 6.67-inch AMOLED with 1260 × 2800 resolution hits 460ppi, which is dense enough that individual pixels vanish at arm's length. More important: 120Hz keeps scrolling buttery, and the 5000-nit peak brightness is genuinely useful. In direct sunlight on a beach or during a video call by a window, this screen stays readable without that washed-out glare you get from duller phones. The 1600-nit high-brightness mode and billion-color depth mean photos and videos pop without crushing blacks or banding. For the price, this is one of the best mobile displays you can get.

Performance

The Dimensity 9300+ is current flagship-class silicon. It powers through Genshin Impact at high settings without frame drops, handles 15 chrome tabs and a video call simultaneously without lag, and doesn't throttle during extended gaming. Up to 16GB RAM and UFS 3.1 storage keep everything snappy. This isn't a budget chip pretending to be fast; it's the real deal, the same tier you find in phones costing twice as much. For everyday work, photography, and gaming, there are no bottlenecks.

Software

Android 15 with OriginOS 5 is Vivo's overlay. Vivo's skin is lighter than it used to be—less bloatware than Samsung's on budget phones, though more opinionated than stock Android. Updates come steadily, and the interface is fast enough on this hardware that any extra layers don't create drag. If you hate skins, this won't convert you, but it's not intrusive enough to be a dealbreaker at this price.

Camera

Three 50MP cameras give you versatility: the f/1.9 main with OIS and PDAF handles low light better than typical, the 3x optical zoom telephoto (85mm equivalent) lets you frame distant subjects without digital blur, and the ultrawide rounds out the system. In daylight, the main sensor captures sharp, colorful shots with good detail. Night mode is competent but not magical—you'll get usable shots indoors and at dusk, but won't match flagship processing. The 50MP selfie is clean for video calls and group shots. This is a reliable imaging setup, not a computational-photography show-off like you find in twice-the-price flagships.

Battery & Charging

The 5500mAh battery lasts about a day with moderate use—browsing, messaging, social media, some video. Heavy gamers or video shooters will see drain by afternoon. The 90W charger fills the tank in roughly 30 to 45 minutes, which is convenient for a quick top-up, but rivals now ship 100-120W chargers at similar prices, so you're not leading the category. Reverse wireless charging is absent, which is fine for this class. Endurance is solid, not exceptional; fine for a work commute, risky for a two-day trip without a charger.

Value & Verdict

At about €450, the S20 Pro sits in the sweet spot between mid-range and flagship. You get current-gen flagship performance, a genuinely bright and smooth display, a competent triple camera, and slim, light build. The gaps versus twice-the-price flagships are real: slower charging, tighter battery, less advanced night photography, and only splash-proofing rather than full submersion rating. But none of those gaps is severe enough to call the phone compromised. It's a straightforward value play: pay less, get flagship guts and a great screen, accept that battery and charging are merely good, not exceptional.

Verdict

This suits photographers and mobile gamers who want current flagship silicon and a bright, smooth display without flagship pricing, especially in regions with 5G coverage. Skip it if you prioritize all-day battery life, wireless charging, or underwater durability over raw speed and screen quality.

Strengths
  • 5000-nit peak brightness and 120Hz AMOLED make the 6.67-inch display excellent for outdoor use and everyday scrolling—a clear win at this price.
  • Dimensity 9300+ is current-gen flagship-class silicon; it runs Genshin Impact and heavy multitasking at full tilt without throttle, making last year's chips look dated.
  • Three 50MP cameras with a real 3x optical zoom and OIS on both the main and telephoto give you versatile framing without digital compromise.
  • At 7.5mm and 194g, it's genuinely thin and light for a 6.67-inch phone; feels svelte in hand compared to the brick-like rivals at similar spec.
Trade-offs
  • 90W charging is solid but not exceptional anymore—rivals in this class hit 100-120W; a 10-15 minute faster top-up would feel meaningful at €450.
  • IP64 is splash-proof but not submersion-safe; people who want to use their phone in water (beach, pool, underwater shots) should look at IP68.
  • 5500mAh battery is respectable but tight for heavy users; expect mid-to-late afternoon drain with intense gaming or video recording, not the all-day cushion pricier models offer.
